About Me

Hello, my name is Amber Brumley and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I work with children, adolescents, families, and adults as an agent of support and guidance. In therapy, I provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively manage personal life challenges.

My goal is that clients feel heard, valued, and encouraged as they seek help and develop new skills. I have been described as a warm and non-judgmental therapist from children and adults alike while being analytical and intellectually informed in my practice. I create a space where clients feel safe to learn about themselves and take risks in trying new ways to both address their problems and become more resilient.

In addition to private practice, I use my skills and knowledge to work with students and their families in schools as a school counselor. This school-based experience provides unique understanding into the demands and ever-changing stressors impacting children, adolescents and their families that can be challenging to manage alone. My experience ranges across educational systems, spanning from elementary school through to higher education. I specialize in assisting high school seniors and young adults navigate the transition to college and adulthood as they acquire the varied resources and skills needed to begin a new journey. As an adjunct professor in the Department of Social Work at California State University Monterey Bay, I enjoy teaching graduate students as they emerge into their professional identities.

In my work and personal experiences I value and enjoy working with diverse and unique families and individuals. I incorporate goal-oriented psychotherapeutic techniques which offers clients pragmatic direction toward helping them develop and achieve their envisioned solutions. I believe that providing clients the tools and support to work towards their realistic goals allows for individuals to maintain change even after treatment concludes.

Additionally, I am also committed to my work and the relationships that are established with my clients. While the goal of therapy is to provide clients with the tools to live life independent of me, I acknowledge that follow up may be helpful at various stages in your life. Therefore, even after your goals are met and treatment ends, I remain an advocate and consultant should you need any type of follow up.

I am a strong believer in lifelong learning which is one of the reasons that led me to this field. Outside of my professional work I am continually reading and training to best address the wide variety of worldview topics coming into my practice. I believe it is important for therapists to remain culturally and socially relevant and I do my best to engage in experiences and knowledge outside the field as well.

My educational training began at California State University Monterey Bay where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I then went on to earn my Master's Degree in Social Work and PPS credential specializing in both School Social Work and Child Welfare & Attendance. My educational training balanced academic rigor with practical experience, and with both of these degrees I achieved high academic distinction and honors.

I welcome the opportunity to answer any questions you may have about me or my work and how I may be able to support any changes you want to see in yourself or your family.
